Located near the coast of Gujarat, Mandvi is a place where history, coastline, and culture blend to create a unique and peaceful holiday destination. While beach towns tend to be very commercialised, this quaint place in Gujarat offers tourists a break from their regular holiday experiences with long beaches, royal structures, ship-building traditions, and vast wind farms amidst the blue waters of the Arabian Sea.

Travellers wanting to take a trip to the coast without the bustling crowds found at most beaches can explore Mandvi with its serene surroundings and historical appeal. It is also a perfect place for a short holiday where tourists can enjoy a peaceful getaway and capture great photographs along the way.

The Appeal of Mandvi Beach

The main attraction of Mandvi is definitely Mandvi Beach, which boasts a huge coastline and a peaceful environment. For those who love coastal destinations, this beach offers a unique environment unlike other crowded and commercial beaches around India.

The mornings on these shores are cool and breezy, and evenings arrive with a beautiful sight of the golden light over the Arabian Sea and an even more peaceful sunset experience. Unlike beaches that are primarily preferred for their dining options and venues for various commercial activities, Mandvi remains a more traditional, family-friendly beach location.

Travellers usually go there to walk around the coastline, explore local food options or watch the fishing boats pass by. Camels and horses can be rented out for riding in certain parts of the beach, but the beach, nevertheless, still looks much less crowded than many other famous beaches of the region.

The Wind Farms and Sunsets Along the Coast

Another prominent characteristic that makes the coastline around Mandvi unique and attractive is the extensive wind farm. Rows and rows of wind turbines on the coast are usually not typical of other, commercial coastal areas, making for an interesting juxtaposition of nature and technology.

The wind turbines have already been established as one of Mandvi’s main visual icons, especially during sunrise and sunset when their silhouettes appear exceptionally impressive against the sky’s colourful backdrop. When combined with the beach and golden sands, the sight of such wind turbines gives Mandvi a distinct appearance compared to other coastal destinations in Gujarat. The surroundings of the wind turbines look even more picturesque during twilight.

Vijay Vilas Palace and Royal Heritage

An excursion to Vijay Vilas Palace offers an additional historical aspect of visiting Mandvi. Originally built as the summer residence of Kutch’s royal family, the palace continues to serve as one of the most striking architectural landmarks in the region.

Being made of red sandstone, the palace demonstrates the fusion of the architectural styles of the Rajputs, the Mughals, and Europeans. With its numerous carvings, domes, balconies, and landscapes, the palace impresses its visitors even today.

Among the other highlights of the palace is the opportunity to enjoy a great view from its rooftop, which includes picturesque views of the coast, gardens, and nearby scenery. Also noteworthy is that this palace served as a setting for several Indian films. Situated not far away from the beach, this landmark is easily accessible on a single day trip.

Final Thoughts

There are several elements that define Mandvi as a great place to visit on the coast in Gujarat. These include the tranquillity, rich heritage, easily accessible hotels in Mandvi and scenic simplicity found in Mandvi Beach and the wind turbines located nearby, as well as the Vijay Vilas Palace.

Mandvi is certainly one of the best coastal places in western India for those who would like to enjoy a more peaceful beach holiday. Mandvi remains one of Gujarat’s most understated yet rewarding coastal escapes.
